MIDDLETOWN, NY – Brett Hearn was awarded the victory in the 100 lap 358 Modified main event on Saturday of Eastern States Weekend after Stewart Friesen took the checkers, but came up 11 pounds light on the scales in post race technical inspection.
Matt Sheppard lead the field to green, however it was Friesen who made the bottom work in turns three and four on the opening lap to take the lead. From there, Friesen set sail leading all 100 laps in route to the checkered flag.
Unfortunately the celebration short lived, as the CG Morey owned 14 machine failed to meet the minimum weight requirement, thus handing the victory over to Hearn. Friesen has this to say via his social media account after the event: “Super thanks to my dear friend Cg Morey for the opportunity to wheel his car tonight when we had problems with ours in practice. Qualified 3rd and then went out and lead every lap only to come up 10 lbs light at the scales. Honest mistake on my part when I was figuring the weight differences. So sorry, would have loved to win it with these guys!”
The disqualification moved everyone up one spot in the final running order, so LJ Lombardo was credited with second, followed by Matt Sheppard, Brian Krummel, Tommy Meier, Jerry Higbie, Peter Britten, Allison Ricci and Marc Johnson.
