West Lebanon, NY April 20, 2014 – Lebanon Valley Speedway in Upstate NY came alive again for the 2nd week in a row with wild dirt racing action. Brett ‘The Jet’ Hearn scores his first victory on the season, while Robbie Speed won back to back in Pro Stocks. Opening night for the Budget Sportsman saw Michael Sabia get his first win on the 2014 season as well.

Even though the weather was a little on the cool side, families packed the stands for a night of hot racing action on the mighty high banks at Lebanon Valley Speedway.

The marquee division in northeast dirt racing, the Big Block Modifieds, took to the Valley of Speed for their 30 lap feature event. At the point early was the 42p of Matt Pupello, taking a healthy lead through the majority of the event.

140419-lv-3 640x322Several cautions kept the field tightly pack right on Pupello’s bumper, including the 45 of Wayne Jelley. Jelley worked the high groove, the low groove, but to no avail as he had to just settle for 3rd as Brett Hearn used the cautions to his advantage to pass both Jelley, and later Pupello in the closing laps to capture his first victory on the year.

Pupello finished second, followed by Jelley, Keith Flach, Kolby Schroder, Brian Berger, Donnie Corellis, Eddie Marshall, J.R. Heffner, and Bobby Hackel IV completed the top 10 finishers.

In the Pro Stock 20 lap feature, Robbie Speed worked his way through the field, and eventually taking over the top spot by lap 16 to take the win. Frank Twing held the early lead, but had to settle for 2nd. Jason Casey finished 3rd, while Nick Hilt, Rob Yetman, Jon Routhier, Chuck Towslee, Daniel Sanchez, Paul LaRochelle, and Tom O’Connor rounded out the top 10 finishers.

Opening night of the Budget Sportsman broke a full field on competitors for their 20 lap feature event. Again, multiple cautions kept the field packed together, but clearly, the man to beat on the night was the 7 of Michael Sabia.

Sabia kept his hot rod out front for nearly all 20 laps to take his first win on the year. Jeff Watson stayed right on the heels of the 7, but had to settle for 2nd. John Virgilio finished 3rd followed by Tommy Johnson, Ray Hall Jr, Todd Lane, Timothy Davis II, Matt Pappa, Whitey Slavin and Cody Hunt completed the top 10 finishers.

Earlier on the night, the PureStocks had their feature events. In PS1 it was Hunter Sanchez, PS2 was captured by Jeff Meltz Sr, and PS3 was won by Ed Hatch.

Contractor Sales and Slovak Excavating bring you next week’s events. The Big Blocks will be Appearance Points Only, with Sportsman, Pro Stock, PureStocks and 4 Cylinders to be on tap as well.
